“What they don’t teach you in school”

What they don’t teach you in school
It’s high time they should
Are some hard hitting facts
About life which they could

They teach you to paint a rainbow
And teach you black and white
But they don’t teach you grey
Where most of the decisions reside

They teach you how to “succeed”
And teach you “moral high ground”
They make you remember the prayer
But forget something profound

Not all the angels are white
Nor all the devils red
Manners of having food??
Tell that to a man without bread

The turtle doesn’t always win
Neither does the rabbit lose
The race which you are in
The option is not yours to choose

This time when the boy cried wolf
And the people turned their back
And somehow we were taught to believe
It was his fault that he got smacked

The boy wasn’t killed by the wolf
The sheep were those who plotted
But how does it matter as long as
We like to keep things sorted

Snow White could have been Black
And not everything about the prince was charming
Not every jealous fox loses
They climb up the hierarchy being cunning

Life is not fair so weren’t the stories
That we told ourselves as child
But perhaps we weren’t prepared yet
To usher in the wild!
