"The Resident's Life"

"Give me another forcep sister!" said the resident while trying to unlock an already rusted instrument while putting sutures on a drunk assault patient.."ekach aahe"(only one availabe) was the spontaneous response he got..with a sigh he used his best skills to give a perfect suture closure.."barobar kar doctor!" an accomplice said in a harsh voice.."tyala dukhtoy!"(it's paining him)..he chose not to respond as he was used to such tone. It was nearly the end of a 36 hr long emergency duty and he wanted to go back to his room asap only to come back again for OT(operation theatre) within an hour. He rushed to his room only to find his phone ringing again..It was mom this time and as usual he disconnected with a message his mom was used to "I'm on call cannot talk right now!"
As he was about to freshen up..phone rang again this time a ward patient with renal failure not on dialysis but some ayurvedic medicine had gone unresponsive..there he rushed in no time intubated the patient and shifted her to ICU..after stabilizing the patient he came back to relatives to inform seriousness..Being very scientific he said "we do not know what has caused her cardiac arrest we are investigating"..to which a relative shouted "She was fine before coming here on ayurvedic treatment! He sagle shikau(derogatory term for trainee) doctors aahet! tyanich kahitari kela asel!"
Before he could respond his phone rang again this time it was OT where patient had already arrived and anaesthetist waiting for induction..as he rushed to reach he could hear the relatives mumble..Bahot careless doctor hai ye koi time hai aane ka!!..neverthless he went on to finish three major and two minor cases back to back only to realise his abdomen wasn't paining it was hunger cramps..as usual he had forgot his breakfast and it was 3 pm already!
.........................................................
As the strike intensified he finally got leisure time to open his whatsapp only to find 1000's of unread msgs amongst which were get together groups of his school friends in Prague, Paris and Vienna! as he scrolled down he found a video of authority saying "Will punish doctors for their "halgarjipana" (carelessness)!. He looked up at his awards, medals and trophies of academic excellence in deep thought...only to be interrupted by the tone of a msg..
"Beta have u eaten?"--Mom
He had tears in his eyes and a smile on his face and a strange sense of purpose!
